Ports at the core of the Adriatic-Ionian Region: events organized by the Marche Region in the framework of EUSAIR

On 27 February 2026, we participated in the event “Ports at the core of the Adriatic-Ionian Region: cooperation and competitiveness towards the sustainable transition”, organised by Marche Region in cooperation with the EUSAIR Strategy and hosted by the Central Adriatic Sea Port Authority in Ancona.

The event represented an important opportunity for discussion among institutions, port authorities, logistics operators, industry associations and experts on the challenges related to sustainable maritime transport and the strategic role of ports in the energy and digital transition of the Adriatic-Ionian area.

We contributed to the organisation of the event, with a particular focus on the morning session dedicated to the implications of the Mediterranean Emission Control Area (ECA) and the need for stronger cooperation among ports within the macro-region. In this framework, we also coordinated and moderated the “Perspectives from stakeholders in building a shared path together”, involving representatives from maritime, logistics, energy and institutional sectors.

The discussion highlighted how the transition towards more sustainable maritime transport requires a shared approach among ports, logistics operators, energy suppliers and public authorities, balancing environmental sustainability, economic competitiveness and transport efficiency. During the afternoon session, the focus shifted to the role of commercial ports as strategic hubs for economic development, competitiveness and cooperation in the Mediterranean area, also exploring the opportunities offered by European transport and logistics policies and funding programmes.
